The 8th African Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF) will be held from 22nd to 24th August in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.

The event will focus on Internet interconnection dynamics, content issues, and other critical components of transit deficits at the domestic and regional level. The audience will include infrastructure providers, Internet service providers (ISPs), Internet exchange points (IXPs), mobile network operators (MNOs), content providers, large enterprise networks, policy-makers, and regulators.

The Programme Committee is currently seeking proposals for content including presentations and panel discussions. See here for more details: https://www.internetsociety.org/afpif/2017/en/call_papers

The AfPIF Fellowship program is also open to those who would like to attend the event but need sponsorship. Applicants should be individuals actively engaged in Internet policy, business, and/or technical development relating to peering and transit. Interested parties should apply here: https://www.internetsociety.org/afpif/2017/en/fellowship-2017

This document outlines a sustainable and scalable model for hosting a content cache at an IXP. It can be modified and used to solicit bids for the provision of IP transit bandwidth capacity to the the cache, which the selected provider will then resell to other networks via the IXP on a cost-recovery basis.

Note: Anyone who wishes to use this template should modify all fields highlighted in YELLOW.

This document template originates from the Rwanda Internet Exchange (RINEX) and Uganda Internet eXchange Point (UIXP). We hope it serves as a useful reference for IXPs and content networks who are looking for a sustainable way to deploy caches at IXPs in Africa.

Do you want to understand more about how Internet networks are connected in Africa? Today we are pleased to announce the launch of the African Route-collectors Data Analyzer (ARDA) system. This system aims to present data on African IXPs in digestible ways that can be easily extrapolated into practical business, policy, developmental, technical, or research opportunities for everyone involved in the peering and interconnection ecosystem.

The system can be accessed by visiting http://arda.af-ix.net/ or by clicking ARDA on the menu of our website (above).

Here's an ISOC press release which covers the system in-depth: https://www.internetsociety.org/blog/development/2017/04/arda-10-pulse-m...
