Are you passionate about Internet infrastructure and want to make an impact on Africa's digital landscape?

The African IXP Association (AFIX) is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated Communications Manager to lead our communications strategy, engage with the Internet community, and support key initiatives like the African Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF), an annual conference that hosts ~400 attendees in a different country each year: https://afpif.org

The role involves managing outreach, media engagement, content development, and event communications for AFIX and AfPIF. Full details are available in the attached PDF.

Are you passionate about Internet infrastructure and want to make an impact on Africa's digital landscape?

We are seeking dynamic and motivated individuals for two key roles: The AFIX Fundraising Manager & AfPIF Logistics Manager.

These roles will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that support our mission and enable the delivery of the African Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF), an annual Internet industry conference that hosts ~400 attendees in a different country each year: https://afpif.org

Full details for each role are included in the attached PDFs, and we are open to applicants who wish to undertake both part-time roles simultaneously. Submissions should be sent by e-mail to the address listed in the documents by February 15th, 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews following the deadline.

Additional roles will become available in the near future including the AFIX Communications Manager.

This three day event is the region’s premier Internet industry conference dedicated to network interconnection, peering, and traffic exchange. It brings together a wide range of stakeholders including network operators, IXPs, regulators, content providers, data centers, and transit providers to explore the key challenges and opportunities in Africa’s Internet ecosystem.

AfPIF is an annual Internet industry event that aims to address the key interconnection, peering, and traffic exchange opportunities and challenges on the continent. It provides participants with global and regional insights for maximising opportunities that will help grow Internet infrastructure and services in Africa.

The first democratically elected board of directors took office on August 21st 2023 at the first Annual General Meeting of the association which took place on the same day in Accra, Ghana.

The election included 13 candidates and 19 IXPs voting from 18 countries. Nine seats were available. Voting began on August 7th, 2023 and closed on August 17th, 2023.

The election was conducted using the Zeus Electronic Voting system with support and oversight from the European Internet Exchange Association; the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Exchange Association; and the Internet Society. Representatives from these organizations acted as election trustees and released a signed statement to certify the election results. A copy of this statement is attached below.

The first elected members, along with their respective terms, are as follows:

  • Muhammed Rudman (3 years)
  • Jane R Coffin (3 years)
  • Jean-Francis Ahanda (2 years)
  • Frank Habicht (2 years)
  • Darwin Da Costa (2 years)
  • Lawakilia Wilfried Drabo (1 year)
  • Edrich de Lange (1 year)
  • Caglar Dabanoglu (1 year)

Note that staggered terms were allocated based on the number of votes each candidate received as required by our Articles of Association for the inaugural election.
